Butters, Oils, Essential Oils, and Miscellaneous items

TLHL Model: T-Ann

Included here are reviews of things like Shea, Mango, and Coco Butters, Oils like Jojoba, Coconut, Monoi, and essential oils like Lavender, Cedarwood, and Rosemary. Butters and oils are similar in use, while essential oils are not oily at all. They are the concentrated "oils" that serve many purposes. Essential oils can be used in and diluted by butters and oils, as well as other hair care products. If you'd like to leave a review, please contact me!

African Royale Daily Doctor

African Royale Daily Doctor was excellent for keeping my hair and scalp conditioned when wearing braids.  In fact it kept my hair de-tangled when removing the braids and left it very soft and manageably silky - even after a shampoo.  I highly recommend Daily Doctor for de-tangling.

EveryDayHenna BaoHen Oil

Have you ever been through a period where nothing works on your hair? I'm going through one now, and not even my old standbys are behaving properly. Poo Oh well, on to the review, and that, at least, is positive.

BaoHen oil ( http://www.everydayhenna.com ) is a combination of baobab oil and neutral henna extract. The aroma is pungent and exotic, and it is taking a little to get used to, but it is tempered by using it on wet hair, which also happens to work the best for me.

I used the oil a number of different ways. I first applied a few drops to dry hair as soon as it arrived and promptly caused the greasies. That is not surprising though, because my fine hair only accepts sunflower oil applied to it dry.

Next, I did several different cleansing routines and applied 4 drops to my towel dried hair. I tried Morrocco Method shampoo and no conditioner other than the oil. It worked well for my ends, leaving them soft and shiny(note: Morrocco Method seems to clean my hair too well, but that's another review, entirely ). Another time I used Nexxus Ensure conditioner and then the BaoHen oil. That also worked well. My final experiment was AO Rosa Mosqueta Shampoo and a vinegar rinse as my conditioner. Applying the oil after this was not the greatest success, and my ends dried crunchy and flyaway. I believe that was the vinegar's fault; my hair does not really like vinegar.

I will continue to use the BaoHen oil on towel dried hair after using a traditional conditioner. It does seem to have some detangling properties, and it seems to grab the wet hair quite well. This is unlike other oils I have tried which have stuck to my palms rather than be transferred to the wet hair. So far it has left my hair shiny and soft, and I look forward to further trials.

Fractionated Coconut Oil

This oil mixes well with water. Very thin, doesn't harden! Not much of a scent.

Virgin Oil de Coco Creme

This is the greatest smelling stuff! It smells like fresh coconut! It is very creamy, and gets hard in cooler temperatures. It works wonderfully on hair and skin!

VO5 Hot Oil

Well, I tried VO5 Hot Oil - Moisturizing. You were meant to use it on wet hair, which I found really hard to do. I used the whole bottle (there were three in the box). I found it was easier to wash out than other oils, but I think this is because it coated the hair rather than penetrated it. It makes the hair reasonably soft, but not as soft as when you use other oils. The plus side is that it smells really nice, but the smell didn't last after my CWC with two different conditioners! Oh and one last thing - it said to leave on for 1 minute, but it took longer than a minute to apply to my whole hair... I don't recommend this product if you want an intense moisturizer. My other oils do a much better job.

I used it long ago. I found that it "felt" nice, but that it didn't really do much. I too find real oils to work best. VO5 "hot oil" is really deceptive in the sense that it's mostly NOT oil.

I love that stuff! I will only use 1/2 a tube and sit with it on my hair for a little while before I S&C.
I only use it once or twice a month. It's kind of nice as a deep conditioner too.
